The pervasive nature of social media has understandably become a key part of online marketing and is changing the way businesses communicate, educate, and perform transactions.

Over the past few years, we have seen a steady increase both the amount of time people spend on social media and the number of purchases they are making online. According to Google, in 2019 72% of Instagram users purchased at least 1 product on the app and a survey of more than 4,000 Pinterest users found that 70% use it to find new and interesting products.

In a survey conducted my Animoto in March 2020, "75 Percent of Millennials' Purchase Decisions Influenced by Brand's Social Media Presence" and they are not alone; In the same study, Gen Z, Gen X and millennials rate YouTube as the platform they most make purchases through.

This highlights the importance of businesses to adjust, reinvent or replace their traditional sales process with one that is responsive to their customers diminishing attention spends and desire for instant gratification – especially when it comes to low-cost purchases.

We have seen platforms continually make it easier for businesses to harness the power of social media to connect with their current and potential customers through advances like e-commerce stores and online marketplaces and, 2020 it has became the norm to see shoppable posts in your feed on Instagram and other social platforms. Shoppable posts make it quick and easy to reach new customers, shortening the sales process and making it easier for users to shop.
